Shout Out Safety are pleased to release a new video-based course – Driving Safety. This online Driver Safety Training course is for everyone who drives as part of their job, or who, in the course of their day, may need to drive to another place of work, whether using a company vehicle or their own. It is also for employees who drive to a single place of work.
Millions of work-based car journeys take place every day. For the most part people drive well and safely but still accidents occur.
The RAC states that “Up to 1 in 3 road crashes involves a vehicle being driven for work. Every week, around 200 deaths and serious injuries involve someone driving for work. Indeed, for the majority of people, the most dangerous thing they do whilst at work is drive on the public highway. Work based driving accidents make up 36% of all road deaths and injuries.”
What’s in the course?
The Driving Safety course aims to ensure that all drivers understand the risks involved when driving and what they can do to minimise the chances of an incident, or accident. This is not just about how your company would like you to drive, this is about you and your family.

- and GOOD DRIVING PRACTICES.
There are many reasons why road accidents occur and we look at some of them in this course, but what we’re primarily concerned about is how you prepare to drive and how you drive, in order to protect yourself, to protect others and to protect the organisation that employs you. Your employer has a duty of care to you, but you have a duty of care to yourself, your family and to other road users.
Some surprises.
Most people think they’re good drivers but even the very best make mistakes, particularly when they’re tired. And there are plenty of other factors to consider which you may not be aware of.
Did you know for instance that every time the clocks go back in October the accident rate rises?
That there are on average 278 more accidents in the two weeks that follow?
And where do you think most accidents occur? Motorways or country roads? The answer may surprise you. 60% of all road traffic deaths occur on country roads, that’s more than 10 times as many as die on motorways.
Remember, 73,000 people were hurt in accidents while travelling on company business last year and 36% of those were off work for over a week. Taking a driver safety training course could go a long way to reducing the chances of you, or one of your employees, becoming one of those statistics.
